Software giant Microsoft has more or less unwillingly revealed that it is aiming to make Office 2010, its next productivity suite for Windows PCs, available to the public in June 2010. Mac users are also going to get the updated software in 2010, only later on, in the second half of the year.
Currently available in beta form, Office 2010 will make its full debut in six versions - the free, ad-supported Starter, plus Home and Student, Home and Business, Standard, Professional and Professional Plus, and deliver a heap of additions including the Backstage view which replaces the file menu, the Ribbon, which retires traditional menus and toolbars, improved search and navigation, co-authoring, new picture and video editing tools, the Outlook Social Connector, fresh data analysis and visualization features, more organizing and sharing options, the Sparklines tool for creating small charts in a single cell, and more.
In addition to the software suite, June is expected to also see to the official roll out of Office Web Applications, web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.
